This full-scale construction project saw our team engaged from the early planning stages, working collaboratively across budgeting, conceptual development, engineering design, and final electrical execution. From the outset, Lightspeed Electrical played a key role in shaping the project’s direction—providing insights on feasibility, cost efficiency, and system integration to ensure a smooth transition from concept to construction. Scope of Works for Little Zak’s Childcare
The project was a complete design-and-construct delivery, incorporating a wide range of critical services:
High Voltage Infrastructure

Coordination and upgrade of the local street substation to support increased power demands and ensure reliable supply for the development.

Installation of a new HV incoming supply to meet the development’s high-voltage power requirements.

Full design and commissioning of the Main Switchboard (MSB) with CT metering for accurate energy monitoring and distribution control.

Installation of all general and sub-distribution boards to manage power supply across multiple zones efficiently.
Lighting Design & Installation

Full lighting render and lux-level modelling completed to ensure compliance with AS/NZS standards and achieve optimal illumination throughout the facility.

Internal lighting systems were installed throughout all learning spaces, staff areas, and communal zones, ensuring consistent, functional, and comfortable illumination across the entire facility.

External lighting included car park pole lighting, façade-mounted architectural lights, and safety illumination for all entry and exit zones to enhance visibility, security, and nighttime accessibility.
Power, Security & Data

Full fit-out of general power including installation of GPOs, appliance connections, and dedicated equipment feeds to support the functionality of all learning, staff, and support areas.

Security infrastructure including CCTV camera systems and electronic access control to support site safety, monitoring, and controlled entry across all designated zones.

Structured data cabling for all IT, communications, and building management systems, ensuring high-speed connectivity and seamless integration across the entire facility.
Child Safety Focus
Every component of the electrical design was executed with child safety front and center. From low-height outlet protections to sensor-driven lighting in key areas, every detail was aligned with the operational needs and safety standards of a modern childcare environment. Lightspeed Electrical took great care to ensure that all fixtures, fittings, and cabling were installed in ways that minimized risk, enhanced supervision, and supported a safe daily routine for staff and children alike.
Special attention was given to high-traffic and activity zones, where lighting was designed to be soft yet effective, reducing glare and creating a welcoming atmosphere. Sensor-driven lighting in bathrooms, nap areas, and storage zones added both convenience and energy efficiency, while ensuring lights were only on when needed.
All installations followed relevant AS/NZS regulations, with additional design considerations built in to accommodate the dynamic needs of educators, carers, and young learners. Switchboards were securely enclosed, wiring was concealed, and all access to potentially hazardous components was restricted, reflecting our commitment to delivering a space that’s not only functional but fundamentally safe. This project demonstrates how intelligent design and expert execution can come together to create an environment that prioritizes both operational performance and the wellbeing of its youngest users.
